Ash Tree Owners Question Whether to Treat Trees

Kurt Meyer and his wife were riding bikes last year through an area of St. Charles, near Aurora, Ill., when they encountered about 15 dead ash trees alongside two that were perfectly healthy. As an owner of Meyer Landscape & Design in Moline, Meyer recognized that the dead trees had been infested with emerald ash borer, or EAB, an invasive insect that kills ash trees, and that the two healthy ones had been treated with a preventative chemical.
