Rugose Spiraling Whitefly infestation is easy to identify due to the sticky, sugary and messy “honeydew” the insect produces. Black sooty mold may also grow on the honeydew, drawing further attention. The most obvious sign of an infestation is seeing the flies themselves as well as the white spiraling patterns they make on the bottoms of leaves, which may look like dust. Leaf drop may also occur in some species of trees and plants.
Treatment Recommendations
Recommend treatment to combat Spiraling Whitefly is with either IMA-jet or AzaSol solutions. The TREE I.V., QUIK-jet, or QUIK-jet Air may be used. Use this equipment in conjunction with the PALM-jet injector kit for palm trees. Formulation is injected directly into the tree’s transport system and is quickly distributed throughout the tree.
Generally, the best seasons for injection are fall and spring, as uptake occurs when trees are transpiring. The environmental conditions that favor uptake are adequate soil moisture and relatively high humidity, with soil temperature above 40 degrees F but no more than 90 degrees Fahrenheit. Extra caution must be taken when treating trees in hot conditions, as doing so may result in an adverse reaction for the tree. Tree health will also affect treatment efficacy, so assess tree health prior to treating.
Control with IMA-jet
IMA-jet is an industry leader because it is highly effective, fast-acting, and provides long-lasting control. Treatment delivered throughout the tree’s vascular system yields results within four days of treatment.
AzaSol™ for Fruit Bearing Trees, Palms & Plants
OMRI listed AzaSol is the best choice for fruit bearing trees, palms and plants, due to its quick knockdown and zero day interval for fruit harvest. This botanical product derived from neem plant has been shown in university trials to be effective, long lasting, fast acting and environmentally responsible.
After Treatment
After treatment we recommend spraying the undersides of leaves with a steady stream of water to remove the spirals and any remaining insects.
