Are you a high school senior pursing full-time studies in Forestry, Plant Sciences, Horticulture, Entomology, Environmental Science, or a related major at an accredited two- or four-year college? Our “Taking Root” college scholarship may be for you!

On Wednesday, we announced the opening of our 5th annual “Taking Root” college scholarship program. We’re looking for high school seniors who will be pursuing full-time studies in the green industry, and we will award 10 students with a $1,000 scholarship to achieve their career goals.

Between 2016 and 2026, The Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts over a 10% growth in the arboriculture field. We want to take this opportunity to help students succeed in this up-and-coming career path.

“Through Arborjet’s ‘Taking Root’ Scholarship Program, we recognize dedicated students who are already demonstrating achievement in their schools and communities and who plan to lend their skills and talents to grow our industry,” said our President and COO, Russ Davis.

Previous students who have been awarded this scholarship are already on track pursuing their goals and making a difference in the world.

“I am a Natural Resources Conservation major at the University of Massachusetts Amherst who plans on pursuing a degree concentrated on forest ecology. After graduation, I hope to become an urban forest ecologist and help care for the trees and also plant more green spaces in cities,” said Maureen, who was awarded the scholarship in 2016.

Students who are interested in applying can apply directly at www.scholarsapply.org/arborjet. To apply, students should upload their current, complete transcript of grades, and fill out the Applicant Appraisal Form found on the scholarship application website. Scholarship recipients are selected based on academic record; demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities; honors; work experience; statement of goals and aspirations; unusual personal or family circumstances; and an outside appraisal. Applications must be received on or before June 30, 2018, 11:59 pm CST. Winners will be notified in August.

We are so excited to be hosting this scholarship for the 5th year in a row! We wish every applicant the best of luck in their college careers and beyond, and we invite you to share the news with your friends and colleagues!
